yoga for everyone

Stephanie Snyder does more than practice and teach yoga — she advocates for it.

her mission? yoga for everyone (her studio, Love Story Yoga, is one of the Bay Area’s most popular; a non-profit she works with integrates yoga in at-risk schools) and everywhere

(she travels the globe teaching workshops). why? “yoga gives a foundation to explore, observe, gain insight, and answer the big questions in life.”

here’s how she does it.

where’s home?

“i live in San Francisco with my two sons, Wolfgang and Soren, and our awesome giant dog, Slayer. i’ve lived in San Francisco for over 20 years, and i just love being by both the water and the mountains simultaneously.”

what do you do — professionally, personally, passionately?

“professionally, i am a yoga instructor. i lead trainings workshops all over the world, i teach at festivals, but my home-base has always been San Francisco.

personally, i love to hike, surf, swim, and, obviously, do tons of yoga. i just absolutely love being outdoors and moving my body under the sun.”

what path led you here?

“i think i was always headed toward yoga. i’ve always been interested in finding answers to the questions that no one can answer for you, and that can be elusive to answer on my own without any sort of foundational basic understandings. i have experienced yoga as a philosophy and system that gives me a foundation upon which i can explore, observe, gain insight, and answer the big questions in life.”

what inspires and drives you?

“i am inspired by challenge and growth. i am inspired by beauty and i am inspired by courage — not just in myself, but seeing all of these things in others, too.”

something you learned “on the job”?

“how to be more vulnerable and open with others, and myself.”

mantra?

“thank you. i love you.”

quick: what’s the best way to calm the mind in five minutes or less?

“take a slow deep breath, count the inhale 5 to 7 seconds, hold for 5 to 7 seconds, and exhale 5 to 7 seconds.”

holiday plans?

“Thanksgiving day class at Love Story Larkspur! 9:30-10:30am."

best sight you’ve seen lately?

“i walk the ocean every day. besides my kids' faces, that’s the greatest sight ever seen for me.”

piece of époque on current rotation?

“the one midi skirt.”

favorite way to sweat?

“yoga and hiking.”

shop Stephanie's picks

three random items you can’t live without?

“Bose headphones, a cozy sweatshirt and Tatcha lip mask.”

all-around life hack you swear by?

“when all else fails, cut your losses and move in a new direction."

“coffee.”
