did you know that only 2.2% of VC funding goes to women? and of that, only 1% goes to women of color? therefore, the percentage of black women who get funded is less than 1%. as a women owned sustainable buisness, we love supporting brands that are helping to move the industry forward. it takes a village... or maybe a planet? so here is a list of just a few we are getting inspired by.




is an LA based boutique whose mission is to work as a community by building a platform devoted to the highest quality of sustainable fashion. Dechel Mckillian, a celebrity stylist whose clients include Drake, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, and Lionel Richie, is passionate about linking cutting-edge movements in urban culture, entertainment and music with the possibilities of sustainable design and fashion. 

jade swim

is designed with just the right cuts to bring out natural beauty. it is classic, but with an edge. the collection is minimalistic with unique details and is carefully crafted from eco-friendly and luxuriously soft fabric. our favorite part? each piece is versatile and is designed to be worn from day to night, or from beach to city. 

the míe

is a nature friendly lifestyle brand that uses natural and biodegradable fabrics that are breathable, elegant and functional, for conscious women, and all women with refined taste. their clothes are made locally in Lagos, Nigeria by artisans and seamstresses. Since launching in 2018, their goal has been to make feel-good fashion with perks of sustainability. 


is an artisan-driven collection of women's, men's, children's and home goods made from natural cotton. lemlem employs traditional weavers as part of their mission to end the cycle of poverty while simultaneously preserving the art of weaving while creating modern, casual, and comfortable clothing. women are at the heart of lemlem and the brand is committed to helping them thrive both within its workshops and beyond. 


is an ethically made, culturally driven clothing brand that focuses on employing and sustaining African artisans. Founded in 2018, GYAL began production in multiple parts of Nigeria in 2019. the main goal is to provide jobs in Africa through fashion and art while exploring sustainability. 


MWR collection

produces a collection of luxury leather accessories that are all handcrafted in New York City. All MWR pieces are made-to-order, making each detail unique to your liking. MWR reduces waste and their carbon footprint throughout the complete making process. the leather used in their designs is sourced from the deadstock supply of their network of sustainable tanneries.

Bôhten Eyeglasses

makes functional and lightweight frames from reclaimed materials to achieve their mission of helping people connect to nature, each other and themselves. the use of discarded materials, especially reclaimed wood sourced from West Africa serve as a key component to each pair of glasses they make.

adele dejak

makes jewelry from upcycled metal and bags from recycled rice sacks and cement bags. they work with refugees and communities in Kenya and Uganda, teaching them new skills to enhance their livelihoods and contribute positively to the local and global community. all of the profits from their jewelry and bags are fed back into the local communities they were made in.

Brother Vellies

makes shoes from vegetable-tanned leathers, soling from recycled tires, hand carved wood, floral dyed feathers, and a collection of other by-product materials sourced from farmers across the globe. Brother Vellies was founded in 2013 with the goal of keeping traditional African design practices, and techniques alive while also creating and sustaining artisanal jobs. Now, the luxury accessories celebrate cultural histories and timeless design.
